Song of the day: Eric Clapton & Friends- Call Me The Breeze

There was a lot of new talent this year, but the established names also made music. Eric Clapton, for example. He invited his friends Mark Knopfler, John Mayer, Tom Petty, Don White and Willie Nelson to play a tribute to JJ Cale with him. The result is really fantastic, the album even went to number 1 in the Dutch album charts! Enjoy

Song of the day: Leonard Cohen- Take This Waltz

Though most people know Leonard Cohen from the song Hallelujah, he made more songs. Personally I think cover versions of Hallelujah are better, but my personal favourite of Leonard Cohen is a song from 1986. He recorded it for a tribute album, and later re-recorded it with the vocals of Jennifer Warnes for his album. It was a translation (though loose) of a poem by one of the favourite poets of Leonard Cohen. The song would chart at number one in Spain. Enjoy

Song of the day: France Gall- Ella Elle L’a

Again a French song which was later covered by Kate Ryan. Though both versions are completely different, you can hear they are identical in some parts. In 1987, the original, made by France Gall, was released. It was meant as a tribute to Ella Fitzgerald, a great jazz singer by the way, who will be featured later. In quite some charts it ended in the top 5. Kate Ryan made her version in 2008. However, today we go for the original. Enjoy

Song of the day: The Pasadenas- Tribute (Right On)

Yes! 1988! And one of the hits in this year is one of my favourite dance tracks, since there are lots of references to old music in there, and because I’ve got the single (found it in some box, I said: I keep it!). It’s one of the records I have to hear if I’m down to get happy again. Enjoy
