Song of the day: Eddy Grant- Gimme Hope Jo’Anna

A few days ago Nelson Mandela had his birthday. Firstly: congratulations and sorry that I’m so late!
His birthday made me think about a song which I had not heard for some time… but which is very happy.
Listening to it again made me think about the Dutch language and other countries. I came to a sad conclusion: there’s one word almost all people outside the Netherlands (and Belgium) know in Dutch. It is in the song, and it is negative: Apartheid. At such moments I regret speaking Dutch… but I can’t help it, since the word was there long before I was born.

Fortunately we should keep hope, and Eddy Grant wants that, too. This one is for you, Nelson Mandela!

Song of the day: Paul Simon- Graceland

Hi there,

I was listening to the album Graceland lately, and I thought:
Let’s put in one of those songs for the song of the day.

For his album Graceland, Paul Simon worked together with a lot of people from South-Africa.
When released, there was a lot of commotion around the album, because there was still Apartheid in South-Africa.
However, that has nothing to do with the quality of the album. In fact, it doesn’t matter at all, since it is such a good album.

I selected the title track Graceland for you as song of the day, but if you want to hear the whole album, you should really buy it!
That is a lot of good music for your money!
