Song of the day: Nina Simone- My Baby Just Cares For Me
This song was a jazz standard for the movie of the musical Whopee! from 1930. Eddie Cantor sang this version. In 1958, Nina Simone recorded another version, which was featured on her debut album. In 1958, the song stuck to number 82 in the UK. This changed in 1987, when Chanel No. 5 used the song in a commercial. The song would be number 5 in the UK and even number 1 in the Netherlands! Enjoy

Song of the day: Santa Esmeralda- Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood
Back to the seventies today! The original of the song dates back to 1964, when Nina Simone recorded it. Then it was taken by the Animals, who recorded their version in 1965. Santa Esmeralda took the arrangement of the Animals and added a disco flavour to it, including some flamenco, salsa and other Latin sounds. It first did very well in the club circuit, where it was taken in a very long version, and the shortened version became a hit in the “normal” charts, like the Billboard Hot 100 (number 15). And today we enjoy these exotic sounds:

Song of the day: Nina Simone- Ain’t Got No- I Got Life
When I was running last week, this song popped up during the period of rest (just walking). I was amazed by the simplicity and the voice, which made it a beautiful song. Back home, I looked which song it was, and I discovered it was Nina Simone. I knew her already from My Baby Just Cares For Me, but this was very good! Enjoy a classic from the sixties:
