Song of the day: Red Hot Chili Peppers- Snow (Hey Oh)

snow hey oh

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are an influencial band, who had different big hits in the nineties, but also some in the zeroes. Their zeroes hit album was Stadium Arcadium, released in 2006. The first single from this album was Tell Me Baby, and this was the second single. Its content is about starting all over, like the singer wanted to do. It would make number 22 in the US, number 1 on the US rock chart, and number 16 in the UK. In my opinion, it’s one of the best songs they ever made. Enjoy

Song of the day: Lynyrd Skynyrd- Sweet Home Alabama

lynyrd skynyrd sweet home alabama

A song from 1974, and it was a hit single: it would be on number 8 in the US, and even on number 6 in Canada. The band had recorded several songs between 1970 and 1972 in Alabama, and they wrote down their impressions. That impressions would be in their song, but that’s not all: the song includes an attack on Neil Young, who was very critical about southern USA. Lynyrd Skynyrd replied to that with their positive impressions, and the nice thing is that Neil Young has played the song once, as a tribute when three members died in a plane crash. The beginning comment, turn it up, was not ment to be there, but it was a comment to the producer. It sounded good and they left it in. Enjoy

Song of the day: Air- All I Need

air-all i need

My testweek is coming up soon (this week Wednesday) and rather than to stress for it, I relax. Stressing will mean bad results and less work done. For relaxation, I could put on Enigma with Sadeness, maybe I will tomorrow, but today I have a long forgotten band from the nineties to relax. Come to rest with

Air- All I Need

Song of the day: Sixpence Non The Richer- Kiss Me

Sixpence

Some bands surprise you: I didn’t know they had a best of at all! I could find one hit, the song of the day, and that’s it. I can think of a reason why they didn’t have that much hits. Not a lot of persons step inside a record store and ask for Sixpence Non The Richer. Just a bit too long for persons to remember. But it’s a nice song, so enjoy:

Sixpence Non The Richer- Kiss Me

Song of the day: Imagine Dragons- On Top Of The World

Imagine_Dragons_-_'On_Top_of_the_World'

What a good year it was for new bands! And in particular this band is one of my favourites: we want more, I would say. What a nice song it was this year, used in a commercial, I believe… So for today, enjoy:

Imagine Dragons- On Top Of The World

Song of the day: Oasis- Wonderwall

Oasis+-+Wonderwall+++insert+-+7'+RECORD-61615

A nineties classic today! These two brothers made some amazing records, and after that they didn’t want to work together anymore after they had a fight. End of the band, goodbye good music! Fortunately, we have their old records, and maybe (wishful thinking) they will come back in some years if they have decided they can go on tour again together… For today, the programme is as follows: we listen to one of their biggest hits, namely:

Oasis- Wonderwall

Song of the day: Roots Syndicate- Mockin’ Bird Hill

roots syndicate

Yeah! Roots Syndicate. One of those one day flies, to have one hit and never return again.
It’s even that bad that they only exist on a Dutch Wikipedia-page, since they were Dutch. For a commercial of an insurances compagny they made a song, which was not ment to be released…
However, it was that popular that it was released, and in the Netherlands it went to number one.

No idea if it was known in other countries, and if not, then it’s about time to listen to this song. It was released in 1993, so it’s 20 years after the release that it’s song of the day! Really like the summer!

Roots Syndicate- Mockin’ Bird Hill

And for those interested in the commercial, watch it here. The text appearing in the end is the catchfrase of the compagny: translated it’s Just Call Apeldoorn. Apeldoorn is the place where the insurancescompagny is located.

Summer Song of the Day #8: UB40- Red Red Wine

ub40 red red wine

A band which is one of my favourites is UB40. Their music is relaxed, reggae, and happy. Since summer is here, they can’t miss in the Summer Song of the Day Top 20!
Unfortunately, the song which you have voted for and which is on number 8, Red Red Wine, has been song of the day once before.

So I want to focus on another good song of them. The song which is not in the Summer Song of the Day Top 20 is a single by them from 1990. It was a cover of an older song, but they had a hit with the song.
The song was a big hit all over the world. Of course I’m talking about Kingston Town, the (unofficial) song of the day.

Number 8: UB40- Red Red Wine

Song of the day: Whitesnake- Here I Go Again

Whitesnake_(album)

Oeh… now things are getting hard: hard rock, metal, etc.
And those are not the things which I like very much… however, there’s a very good song on the album, and maybe it’s the best known song of the band Whitesnake.

It’s actually quite funny how I came to the decision to choose Whitesnake as song of the day. I woke up this morning, and I had a window opened a bit. Opening the curtains, I heard pieces of the song of the day, and I thought: why not?
That’s the reason for Here I Go Again to be the song of the day!

Song of the day: Olivia Newton-John & the Electric Light Orchestra- Xanadu

Hi there,

Another soundtrack today! Earlier on, we had Grease as soundtrack.
The woman who played the main character in this song sings the soundtrack of today, together with a band.

Yes, it’s Olivia Newton-John together with the Electric Light Orchestra singing Xanadu from the movie with the same name.

Tomorrow more soundtracks!

Song of the day: Depeche Mode- Enjoy The Silence

Hi there,

The new song of the day is here! A very good song, made by a band which has released a new album lately!
That album was called Delta Machine, and it sounds marvelous! Their older hits are also very good, I really recommend their albums if you don’t have them yet!

The song of the day is one of the older songs, and if you didn’t know already, the band is called Depeche Mode.
The song of the day is called Enjoy The Silence.

Tomorrow TWO new songs!

And please vote for the Song of the day top 50!

Song of the day: Rigby- Earth Meets Water / Train- Mermaid

The last new songs for March…
Next week it’s April!

The first new song is made by a band which I like very much. And actually, this band is made by Holland…
Their first song was popular in the Netherlands, and after that, they became popular in the rest of the world.
I’m talking about Train with their new song Mermaid!

For the second song I don’t really have an introduction, since the music says all!
All I can say is that it is a very good song!
It’s Rigby with Earth Meets Water!

And please vote for the Song of the day top 50, since I don’t have that much votes!

Song of the day: U2- With Or Without You

Hi there,

I was listening to a great album lately, and suddenly realised that the band who made the album hasn’t had a song of the day.
Until now, because the song of the day is made by this band. It’s the band who made the album “The Joshua Tree”.

Of course you now know it is U2 with With Or Without You.

It’s the third song of this great album, which has some other great songs on it.

Song of the day: Liquido- Narcotic

Hi there,

Today a song which is one of my favourites from the nineties.
It’s a German band, and they only had one big hit: the song of today.

I’m talking about the band Liquido with their hit Narcotic.

I hope you like it, too!

Song of the day: R.E.M. & Kate Pierson- Shiny Happy People

Hi there,

Today a duet between a singer and a band. The single was released in 1991, and it was quite a hit.
It’s one of the songs which brought success for the band in Holland, but also in other countries.

It are R.E.M. and Kate Pierson with Shiny Happy People!

Tomorrow another song!

Song(s) of the day: Kensington- Home Again / Emeli Sandé- Clown

Hello there,

Today two songs, and both are new!

The first song is made by a Dutch band, and they have named themselves after a part of London.
They are busy since 2005, but their new single is really good!
It’s Kensington with Home Again!

The second song is made by a singer from Scotland. She is busy since 2009, and has had a few big hits in the past year.
The latest hit was together with Labyrinth.
Yes, it’s Emeli Sandé with Clown!

Next week I’ve two other selections for you!

Song of the day: The Radios- She Goes Na-Na

Hi there,

Yesterday it was something strong, today a lovely softer song.
Hint of the day: The band is named after the thing which plays your music. Or actually: more than one of those machines…

Yes, it are the Radios with She Goes Na-na.

Lovely, isn’t it?

Song of the day: Alcazar- Crying At The Discotheque

Hi there,

Today the song of the day comes from the beginning of the zeroes.
It’s a song made by a Swedish band, which didn’t have a lot of hits.

One hit, though, is very famous, and it was a big hit. This is Alcazar with Crying at the Discotheque!

Yeah!

Song of the day: The Maisonettes- Heartache Avenue

Hello everyone,

Today the song of the day is made by a one hit wonder.
You sometimes have artists or bands who have one hit, and after that they just dissappear. A lot of summersongs have this, but also other songs.
One of them is the song of the day.

It are the Maisonettes with their hit Heartache Avenue.

Tomorrow two new songs, since it’s friday then!

Song of the day: Dire Straits- Calling Elvis

Hello everyone,

Today we’re going to call a dead person…
Or, at least, a band is going to call this person.

I’m talking about the Dire Straits, who are going to call Elvis Presley in Calling Elvis.
And there are some small sentences of Elvis in the songtext. Some examples:

Heartbreak hotel, Love me tender, Don’t be cruel, Return to sender and Treat me like a fool.

I hope you like the song, because I do!

Song of the day: Duran Duran- A View To A Kill

Hello everybody,

The movies of James Bond cause a lot of hits. One of the hits is the song of today.
The band who made the song, has two words in their name, both the same.

Which band? Duran Duran. They made the song for the movie A View To A Kill.

The Bond at the time of the movie was Roger Moore, according to me one of the best Bonds.
You also can see him in the clip.

Tomorrow a new song!

Song of the day: Rolling Stones- Paint It Black

And here we go again!

The song of today is made by the band who exists 50 years this year. The year is nearly over, but I still want to make them song of the day!
I’m talking about the band with Mick Jagger, the Rolling Stones!

The trick with the Rolling Stones is that they were the “bad” guys against the Beatles, the “good” guys.
It was an idea of their producer, who first worked with the Beatles, and after that he went to the Rolling Stones. And he could make something of them, yes!
It was not a bad idea, and that’s how they became successful.

The song of the day is the song according to most fans. I like it, too. Paint it black!

Tomorrow the last song of 2012… But there are 365 other songs in 2013!

Song of the day: Queen- I Want To Break Free

Hello everyone,

Today a clip from a very famous band. Their lead singer is dead, and the band is still active, but not as good as with their lead singer.
Mostly that’s the case with passing away of group members. And this person can’t be replaced…

I’m talking about Freddie Mercury, with his band Queen. The song of today is I Want To Break Free. This clip is absolutely genious, because it represents the song. You see the members of Queen as women, playing in something like Coronation Street.
Then there’s a part with ballet in between, which is also very nice to see.

Most persons think it was the idea of Freddie Mercury to do the clip where all members are dressed up as women, but the idea actually came from Roger Taylor (That’s the story…)

I hope you like the song (and the clip), tomorrow I’ve got something else for you!

Song of the day: Sting- Englishman In New York

Hello everyone,

Here’s the song for today, with another nice clip!

The song of today has a simple clip, but a very good song.

And the fact that the clip is simple, makes the music better. And with this music, the clip is good as well.
What do we see? A band playing the song, and a man walking in the streets of New York.

This man is Sting, and he is, just like the song predicts, an Englishman in New York.

And I love this song. When I hear this saxophone, I want to listen to the whole song, no matter what.
Tomorrow two songs, and I have some good ones for you!!

You know, I sometimes feel like an Englishman in New York, too.”“That’s strange! You aren’t even English!”

Song of the day: Dizzy Man’s Band- The Opera

Hello everyone,

Here’s the new song of the day. Still in the Dutch mood, and still going strong.
The song of today is a made by a band from the seventies, and their song is really stunning…
You simply don’t know what you hear!
It’s the Dizzy Man’s Band with The Opera

Have some fun with it!

Tomorrow two new songs, made by Dutch artists… And after that, it’s December….

Song of the day: Racoon- No Mercy

Hello everyone,

After two days of the Handsome Poets with the song of the day, I want to get your attention for another band, which is also very popular in the Netherlands, and also very good!
The band where I’m talking about is called Racoon, and the song is called No Mercy.

I absolutely like their music, and I think that they could make it abroad, too.

Therefore, I would like to ask you: If you like this band, please like this post.

And, if you want to hear more of Racoon, check out these songs:

-Took A Hit

-Liverpool Rain

Tomorrow 2 new songs!
