FlinterFile: Arlo Guthrie- The City Of New Orleans
Arlo Guthrie wrote quite some songs, but had his only hit in the charts with a cover…This song was written by Steve Goodman, who travelled with his wife on a train to visit the grandmother of his wife. As he was looking out of the window, he wrote down what he saw. Back home he heard that the line he travelled on would disappear and so he used his notes to write a song to save it. He released his song in 1972 on single, but the cover of Arlo Guthrie really hit the charts and therefore attended the people on the disappearing railroads. It was a number 18 hit in the US. Enjoy
