Song of the day: The Eagles- Hotel California
This classic song comes from a historic album and is probably the best known song by the Eagles. The song started with Don Felder playing some things on the beach. He took the basic idea of the music to Don Henley and Glenn Frey, who completed the song with lyrics. These have always been a mystery, but mostly it’s about the high life in California, or rather: in America. Los Angeles stood model for the song, as it is the prototype of the good life. As they recorded it a year later, Don Felder improvised a guitar part at the end. Don Henley didn’t want that: he wanted it to be like the demo. As Don Felder couldn’t remember that, he called his wife, who played the demo tape over the phone… The famous hotel on the cover is the Beverly Hills Hotel. The photograph was made 60 feet of the ground, in a cherry picker. Eventually the song was number 8 in the UK and number 1 in the US. Enjoy
