Song of the day: Shakin’ Stevens- Merry Christmas Everyone
Already in 1984, Shakin’ Stevens had recorded this song. However, it wasn’t released then, because the song Do They Know It’s Christmas by Band Aid was also released (and as that was for the good cause, they didn’t want them to clash). In the year after that, they did release it. It was written by Bob Heatlie, and everyone knew when they heard it, that it could be number 1. With some luck, as the Christmas songs are only played for two and a half weeks, it became a number 1 hit in the UK in 1985. It would also be the last number 1 hit for Shakin’ Stevens. Enjoy
