FlinterFile: Dire Straits- Sultans Of Swing

The Dire Straits released their first single in 1978.Mark Knopfler got the idea when he was visiting a bar one night, where a band (not all that good) played to a small, mostly drunk audience. At the end, the frontman thanked the public with the line ‘we’re the Sultans of Swing’, something which they obviously weren’t. Knopfler worked on the idea, changed it into a song (which isn’t in a swing rhythm) got a record deal with the demo of this song. The song would chart at number 8 in the UK, number 4 in the US and the fame of the band was established. As it turned out, they would be the Sultans of Swing. Enjoy
