FlinterFile: Pat Benatar- Love Is A Battlefield
With this song, Pat Benatar prooved that not only love is a battlefield. Making songs is too.The song started with a simple call to songwriter Mike Chapman, who was at home with Holly Knight, then still a starting songwriter. She wanted a hit, and so the two went to work. Holly Knight came up with the melody and Chapman wrote ‘something strange’, a comparison between love and war. They gave it to Pat Benatar, but it was a ballad. Neil Giraldo, her husband and producer, made it an uptempo song and said it would be a hit. However, Chapmann hated it and also the record label wasn’t convinced. Finally they got it released as it was and it prooved to be a hit: number 17 in the UK and number 5 in the US in 1983. Enjoy
