FlinterFile: The Clash- Rock The Casbah
The Clash had their biggest hit in the US in 1982.This hit was written by Topper Headon, the drummer of the band. He had written a song and when he played it for the Clash, he ran from the drums to the piano and from there to the bass, to play the song. His lyrics, however, were changed by the singer of the band, Joe Strummer. Originally they were very pornographic. Strummer changed them to people in Arab countries asking the Shareef why they may not disco, ‘rock the casbah’. When it became a number 30 hit in the UK and number 8 hit in the US, however, the drummer was already changed, due to his drug use. Enjoy
