FlinterFile: Peter en zijn Rockets- Kom Van Dat Dak Af

This is the story of how rock ‘n roll got into the Dutch pop music. And it starts with the release of this song in 1960.Peter Koelewijn and his band de Rockets were going to record two demo’s of songs, but Peter had written a song a few days before they would record it. As the journey with the train took quite some time, he proposed to play the new song for his band, and in the train they tried to learn and play the song. When they got to the recording studio, everyone knew what to play and recorded ‘Kom van dat dak af’, Get down the roof. The song was the first Dutch rock ‘n roll song, and became a big hit: it was number 1 in the Netherlands. Later, it would be re-recorded and re-released, which caused it to be a hit four times (!) in different versions: a maxi single version, a live version and a version with rap would follow the original from 1960.
