FlinterFile: Tom Petty- Free Fallin’
Tom Petty released the album Full Moon Fever in 1989.The album was produced by Jeff Lynne (ELO), who wrote with Petty on this song. As they would record it, the song started with three chords they just made up. Petty would sing some things for fun, like “She’s a good girl … loves her mama”, which they kept. Jeff Lynne then came up with the title and after a few hours, the song was there. However, his label rejected the album, which he told when having dinner with Jeff Lynne and George Harrison. The head of Warner Bros. did like the song and asked him to release the album with him. However, when the management changed, he could still release the album at his label, as they liked the song. And so the song made the charts in 1989, reaching number 64 in the UK and number 7 in the US. Tom Petty would release an album with Jeff Lynne, George Harrison, Roy Orbison and Bob Dylan later that year, as the Traveling Wilburys. Enjoy
