FlinterFile: The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band- Mr. Bojangles

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band covered a song by Jerry Jeff Walker in 1970.Jerry Jeff Walker had traveled through the USA and played music in different cities, including New Orleans. After drinking a bit too much and coming on a bit too strong, he landed in jail, where he met an old man. This man, who was a street dancer, told Walker his life story. Many of the other prisoners asked this man, calling him Bojangles, to dance. Walker took his experiences and when he was in Texas, he wrote a love song based on the stories of the man. The song would be covered by quite some artists, but the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band had a number 9 hit in the US with it. Enjoy
