FlinterFile: The Beach Boys- California Saga
In 1973, the Beach Boys were in the Netherlands to record their album Holland. However, Al Jardine and Mike Love experienced homesickness during this time. Therefore, they wrote a song about it, or better: three songs. The three together make up the Saga. Part one was inspired by the Big Sur Folk Festival, where they played in 1970. Part two was inspired by the poem The Beaks of Eagles by John Robinson Jeffers. Brian Wilson sung the part ‘On my way to sunny Californ-i-a’, after hearing it just once. That, with a melody which sounds a lot like California Girls, made up part three. It was number 84 in the US, but did better in the UK, where it was number 37. Enjoy
