FlinterFile: Mike Oldfield- To France

After having a hit with Moonlight Shadow, sung by Maggie Reilly, Mike Oldfield asked her again to sing on the single To France.

The song opens the album Discovery (1984). The B-side is opened by a song with the same musical theme. The song itself is about Mary, Queen of Scots, who dreams about fleeing her imprisonment and going to France. She wouldn’t make it, however, as she was beheaded in 1587. The instruments were all played by Mike Oldfield, apart from the drums, which were played by Simon Phillips, a later member of Toto. The song was number 48 in the UK, number 3 in the Netherlands and even number 1 in France. Enjoy
