FlinterFile: Men Without Hats- Safety Dance
The Men Without Hats released this song in 1983 as the second single from their album Rhythm of Youth. It was written by Ivan Doroschuk, who had been kicked out of a club. The reason was that he was pogoing, a dance type which is done individually and exists out of jumping at the same place, mostly to new wave, which was coming up at the time. As these people did bounce into each other, it looked dangerous and they were thrown out of clubs. The song basically expresses the call to do what you want to do, in this case dance as you want. It was a number 6 hit in the UK and number 3 in the US. Enjoy
