Song of the day: Deep Purple- Smoke On The Water
On the fourth of December 1971, there was a fire in a casino in Montreux.Frank Zappa was playing, as someone shot a flare gun and set the place on fire. The members of Deep Purple were in front, as they were next to play there. They left and were taken to a hotel in the neighbourhood. The hotel completely burnt down and the smoke from the fire went over the lake. This inspired them to write a song about the whole thing, which was recorded with the mobile studio of the Rolling Stones for the album Machine Head, which was released in 1972. Even though it is a great song, it took about a year for it to become a hit. In the UK it became number 21, in the US number 4. Enjoy
