FlinterFile: R.E.M.- Nightswimming
Sometimes a song is already there, but needs time to get finished. This R.E.M. song had its lyrics finished before the appropriate music was written. The song is about the childhood of the band, when they would swim naked in the swimming pool of a man living in Athens. Mike Mills and Peter Buck had some competition to write the music for the song. Two melodies were rejected and made into other songs, but eventually there was a piano intro from Mike that the singer, Michael Stipe, liked. It became an iconic song, although it only made number 27 in the UK. Enjoy
