Song of the day: Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark- Maid Of Orleans (The Waltz Joan Of Arc)

The band Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (OMD) didn’t really sing normal love songs. Being influenced by Brian Eno and Kraftwerk, they chose some more unusual topics, like Joan of Arc. The song had the word love in it, which was already quite different, but it was Joan of Arc who it referred to, so that was possible. This was the second single about Joan of Arc, with an intro to set the mood, which worked quite well: It was a number 4 hit in the UK in 1981 and number 1 in the Netherlands.
