FlinterFiles: Darlene Love- Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)
Phil Spector is a legend and his album A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector is probably one of the best known Christmas albums ever released. A lot of classics were given a remake, mostly with the famous Wall of Sound. The album was released in 1963 and included several songs by Darlene Love. The song Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) was one of them, but originally was intended for Ronnie Spector of the Ronettes. The only problem was that she couldn’t put as much emotion in the song as that was needed, so Darlene Love could record the song. At the same time, the song Johnny (Baby Please Come Home) was recorded, the same song, but without the Christmas signature. The song first flopped, but eventually it became the signature song of Darlene Love.
