FlinterFile: Stan Getz & Astrud Gilberto- The Girl From Ipanema
In 1963, two Brazilian composers wrote one of the most famous bossa nova songs. Antonio Carlos Jobim wrote the music and Vinicius de Moraes wrote the Portugese text. These two often sat in a bar, as they saw a beautiful girl walking by ‘like a samba’. As Stan Getz was recording this song with João Gilberto, they needed a singer for the English text their producer wrote. Gilberto suggested his wife, though she never sung a note before. Eventually she sang it and made the song popular. The song was a number 29 hit in the US and number 5 in the UK. Enjoy
