In 1961, Percy Mayfield wrote one of his hits. He was a singer, but after a car accident, he was disfigured and focused on writing songs. The female vocals were sung by Margie Hendricks, who was the girlfriend of Ray Charles for a while. However, the song is not about her. The song won a Grammy for best male R&B song and was Charles’ second number 1 hit in the US. In the UK, it was number 6. Enjoy
