In 1975, John Whitehead, Gene McFadden (together the duo Whitehead & McFadden, who had a big hit in 1979 with Ain’t No Stopping Us Now) and Victor Carstarphen wrote Wake Up Everybody. The first to record it were Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, with Teddy Pendergrass on lead vocals. It was number 1 in the US soul charts, number 12 in the normal US chart and number 23 in the UK.
